Writing is one of the most important aspects of English learning. Anyone who is preparing for English language proficiency tests such as IELTS understands the importance of writing skill improvement. There are many things to learn when you are trying to improve your skills in writing.

A very basic example of a lesson is to simply avoid having two letter space between sentences. This rule is, if I’m not mistaken, taught during primary school, but there are people who seem to ignore the importance of not committing this particular mistake. If you put two spaces in between sentences, the readers will be skeptical about your work. Instead of focusing on what you are trying to convey, they would be busy watching out for your mistakes. Also make sure that your paragraphs have reasonable lengths. Avoid making unusually long or short paragraphs, and do not create laboriously long paragraphs in your final draft.

Familiarize yourself with the proper use of capitalization, rules for styling numbers, and the principles of punctuation.  You need to be consistent in omitting or inserting a serial comma. These principles also include the proper use of the semicolon and avoidance of the comma splice.

Other topics that you need to learn about or master are idioms and spelling. Make sure that you avoid using unnecessary cliches as it will make you look like a lazy writer. Improve you vocabulary and spelling skills, and you can easily do this by taking advantage of the resources available online. There are educational tools such as apps that are designed to help people improve their English grammar, vocabulary, and spelling skills. You do not have to spend just to take advantage of these tools as many are available for free. These apps are designed to be user-friendly too and can be used in gadgets such as tablets, laptops, and mobile phones.

Once you have already learned the basic grammar rules, make sure that you practice writing on a daily basis. Write just about pretty much anything that comes in your mind. It doesn’t matter what you write about. The important thing is that you are able to give yourself a chance to apply what you have learned, and evaluate whether you are making progress in your writing. People say that practice makes perfect. However, I believe that this should be construed to mean that practicing in the right way using the correct methods or following the rules is what can lead to perfection. When you practice without following grammar rules or learning about the correct sentence usage of a word, you will be far from making any progress. Make sure that you practice writing by applying what you have learned about grammar and other topics about English learning.

Be creative and do not be afraid to make your own lines beautifully. Strive to become someone who can craft beautifully-made sentences. Discover how you can clearly express your ideas or emotions through expanding your vocabulary and learning about proper sentence construction. Believe in your abilities to write well, work hard, and eventually you will find yourself being the excellent writer you’ve ever dreamed of.
